Monadnock-Sunapee Greenway, NH
Experience the dramatic beauty of southeastern New England on this customizable 2-4-day trek. Escape in the dense hardwoods, traverse footbridges across a gorge, summit two significant New Hampshire peaks, relax alongside Robinson Brook Cascades, lunch atop a fire tower and walk the White Ledges all in a few days’ time.
Leave the logistics to your experienced guide so you can sit back and enjoy the outdoors. Soak in the sunset, reset that circadian rhythm, and return to your life with a clear mind after conquering some pretty rugged trails.
Begin this trek with a climb atop Mount Monadnock at the southern terminus of the MSGT. At 3,165 feet, this peak is the most prominent in southeastern New England. There are incredibly vast views at the rocky summit. The trail progresses northward, across the Eliza Adams Gorge which serves as the outlet of the Howe Reservoir. Cross a pair of footbridges above a deep and rocky stream.
This trek is riddled with fresh, flowing water features allowing you to fill up your bottles and your mind with the percussion of water rolling over rock. The Robinson Brook Cascades wander alongside the trail for a short while, creating some fine scenery and adding to that symphony.
Lake Solitude is accessible via a short side trail. Much like its name, solitude and serenity are a given due to the remoteness and elevation. This also makes it an important environment for many rare species.
The White Ledges offer a Birdseye view of Lake Solitude and the surrounding area. At 2669 feet, the cliffs provide a perfect location for a snack break and signal the nearing of the end of the adventure.
Mount Sunapee serves as the northern terminus for this trek. The top of the mountain is a part of the Mount Sunapee Ski Resort, a popular destination in the winter months. Catch a glimpse of the White Mountains on a clear day and even a few of Vermont’s peaks like Okemo and Ascutney.
The many shelters and tentsites, paired with multiple parking areas allow this trip to be fully customized to the length and difficulty of your choosing. Tackle the entire greenway, or just hit a section and save the rest for next time!
